Niyonu D. Spann

Niyonu finds herself in New Haven after years of following a call to build and sustain communities that are whole and healthy. Assisting people and the organizations they create to BE what they say they BE – “that’s what turns me on.” In 2000, Niyonu designed and began facilitating a 5-Day intensive workshop called, Beyond Diversity 101 (beyonddiversity101.org). It’s focus is on creating wholeness – taking diversity training beyond the usual frameworks of guilt & blame. At a BD101 training, Niyonu met New Haven resident, Bill Graustein. After he participated in a second BD101 workshop, Bill invited Niyonu to CT where he introduced her to his love of story and in time, to his love and commitment to New Haven. Today, Niyonu and Bill are co-piloting a new project called, Co-creating Effective and Inclusive Organizations (CEIO). Niyonu brings to this project over 25 years of Organization Development consulting, 13 years of classroom teaching, over 25 years of parenting four sons and a lifetime of song. She is Founder/Director of Tribe 1 a group of singers & drummers performing music of transformation and peace, (tribe1.org). Niyonu splits her time between New Haven and a home in Chester, PA where she runs a youth development program called, YouthPLACE – Peace, Leadership, Arts and Cultural Exchange. “No matter how you cut it, it takes inside-outside transformation to reach wholeness!”
