Tina Smillie

Tina Smillie is one of eleven founding members of Green Haven, the first cohousing community in Connecticut. They’re planning a beautiful, sustainable, affordable, pedestrian-centered, kid-friendly, multi-generational neighborhood of about thirty homes, with a common house for shared facilities, and plenty of land for playing, gardening, and farming. With a desire to be both urban and agricultural, they’re looking at farmable land close to public transportation. They’re actively seeking new members—families, singles, and couples of all ages.
Raised in the San Francisco bay area, Tina’s lived in CT since 1976 and in New Haven since 1997. She’s the founder (1995) and medical director of Breastfeeding Resources (real website under construction!), in Stratford, the first private medical specialty practice in the US devoted to the care and support of breastfeeding mothers and their children. The writer and co-producer of the DVD Baby-Led Breastfeeding, the Mother-Baby Dance, now translated into 6 languages, she’s been invited to speak all over the world about the innate competence of the newborn infant, the neuroendocrine underpinnings of maternal intuition, and how all this creates the magic beginnings of the mother-baby relationship.
